The
traditional batik print has enchanted the viewers for centuries now. Its
origin can be traced back to 2000 years with countries like India and
Indonesia using the process to decorate cloth and fabrics. The
everlasting print is no longer restricted only to fabrics, the art has
expanded to being used for decorating hand made paper.
Batik Technique on Hand Made Paper
Batik printing on paper is a three step process, beginning with waxing,
then dyeing and finally dewaxing. It can be done using methods like
screen printing, splash and hand painting. This creatively designed
decorative paper is put to number of uses. Fascinating characteristics
of the batik print with different styles, motif and bright colours used
on paper make it befitting for being used as cards, invitations etc.
Matte gold and silver are used for adding elegance and richness to the
paper. This highly developed form of art uses either geometrical,
abstract or freehand prints or a combination of all of them to create
eye catching patterns and designs. Geometrical batik designs can be
repetitive, circular, triangular or parallel diagonal ones.
