Birds Nest Paper This
is a heavily textured natural paper of Thailand with small stick like
fibers. It is a flipping and a fabulous idea of making a paper from
abandonned bird nests. The paper has a unique, thick mat like texture
and is flexible enough to fold and use for several decorations and other
similar projects. The color of the bird nest paper is a lovely soft gray
and the sheets are surprisingly strong. The paper is said to made from a blend of coconut fibers and tree debris. The first bird's nest paper is said to be made by Gin in Thailand. Gin found a nest of robin that was full of weathered hosta leaf and grasses and took another nest that was full of grass stems and tiny twigs. The nest was trimmed and washed to remove the dirt. After washing the nest, along with the hosta leaf stems and grasses kinds of string, two or three well frayed cigarette butts, strips of plastic, some kind of white foam, a piece of frayed blue polyester material, assorted rotted non-fibrous leaves and a chunk of corn stalk was also found. Non cellulose materials were tossed and the materials were well washed with water and then surprisingly a unique and a strong handmade paper was found, commonly known as Birds Nest Paper.
