Chinese Handmade PaperThe history of handmade paper dates back to 105 AD, with its origin in China. China is still said to be a home of few skilled artisans possessing dexterity and steadiness. The tradition of handmade paper began in Anhui Province, China in about 800A.D. Handmade paper making is now valued as a National Treasure of China. The two most popular handmade paper of China are An jing and Xuan.

The early records of the county's papermaking can be found in imperial tribute listing, court edict, and local chronicles in 7th century. Chinese papers are made from bast fibers, such as blue sandalwood, mulberry , hemp and dragon whisker grass. They reflect the long tradition of Chinese paper into a world of creativity. An-Jing Paper, Xuan Paper are from Jing Xian County of Anhui Province.

Paper cutting is also considered to be a tradition of Chinese culture and several paper products are crafted from beautiful Chinese handmade papers. These papers are often preferred for high-quality book publishing as well as for conservation purposes in the repair of old books and paintings.
