Organic Paper

The world's first completely organic, non-toxic paper has been developed by Italian researchers at the University of Viterbo. The first organic papers formed were brown in color including ingredients such as wheat, maize and other crop plants.

Organic papers are crafted from a variety of natural fibers with visible textures, gradations of natural hues and an overall organic look and feel. Handmade Organic paper is thin and flexible. There are a number of organic papers that have a natural texture and are versatile in their uses.

Types of Organic Paper

Organic Rice Paper
Rice paper is a non-fibrous, delicate, thin paper made from the pith of the rice paper tree, a small Asiatic tree or shrub, Tetrapanax papyriferum, that is widely cultivated in China and Japan. The pith is cut into a thin layer of ivorylike texture by means of a sharp knife.

Rice paper is white, absorbent, durable, and widely used in art, crafts, and home improvement. is a favorite for calligrapy, watercolor, sumi, sketching, and decorative purposes.

Organic Wheat Paper
Wheat papers are made from wheat fibers that are golden in color. Finely beaten wheat pulp gives a fine texture to the wheat paper. They are used for several art purposes and as a home decor.

Organic Maize Paper
Maize paper is made by using the fibrous wastes from maize processing - stalk, leaves, cob and bran. Maize is a good substitute of wood cellulose used in paper. Maize paper are translucent and thin and they are used as packing papers.

Organic Bamboo Paper
In China, bamboo is an integral part of the country's traditions and culture. Beautiful bamboo papers are made using long, thin bamboo fibers.

They are made by crushing bamboo and leaving them in lime water for months. An even layer of bamboo is scooped out as pulp onto the screen and sheets are left to dry. After drying they are peeled off as beautiful bamboo papers.
