Resho simply means cotton.
Bhutanese resho, also called
cotton paper, is a
versatile handmade paper with a white creamy beige shade. This makes one
of the commonly used paper in Bhutan. Elegant and exquisite handmade resho paper
is available in natural shades with a plethora of designs and prints on
the paper.
Making of Resho Paper
- The de-nar bark is boiled in water with a lye of ashes, an alkali
solution made by dripping water through a basket of wood ash.
- This is done to break down the lignin which binds the bark fibres
to produce a soft malleable pulp.
- Pour the pulp onto a floating mould.
- Then dry the paper on the mold.
