Silk Screen Prints Screen
printing, sometimes called silk screening or serigraphy,
has long proved it's worth as a fine arts and commercial medium. It is a
print making technique that creates a sharp edged single color image
using a stencil and a porous fabric.Silk screen print papers are decorative papers produced by the principle of stencil print. Paint used for these papers can be made from a mixture of frothed wallpaper oe wheat paste and water to which poster or powder paint has been added. It should be the consistency of whipped cream but thin enough to flow freely. By using several stencils a number of colors can be employed in a single handmade paper. Fine art prints require smooth matte finish, medium or heavyweight papers. On these handmade sheets permanent acrylic paints are used. Art prints require porous-surface papers of high quality. Water soluble inks are used for printing on porous surface papers. Silk screen prints has its origin in simple stenciling most commonly used in Japan. The modern technique of silk screen printing was originated from patents taken out by Samuel Simon in the early 1900s in England. It was then adopted in San Fransisco, California by John Pilsworth in 1914 who used a silk screen to form multicolor prints. Later in 1930, silk screen printing began as an industrial technology adopted by American Graphic Artists and then it was further popularized.
