Stamping
is a process of making an impression or shape using an implement or
device. Exotic handmade papers are formed by stamping. Stamped papers
are light weight and textured handmade papers that are suitable for all
crafting projects.
Stamping Technique
- Make your own designs using a sponge.
- Heat the material with an embossing tool.
- Press it into a bowl of any desired object whose imprints you
want.
- The imprint of the object will stay in the sponge as it cools.
- Apply stamp markers or an ink pad to the sponge.
- Use the resulting sponge making several designs on the handmade
papers.
You can also transfer a design using transfer paper. Draw design
of your desired choice and cut the design and paste adhere to the foam.
No need to heat the foam for making a stamp using transfer paper.
How to Emboss a Stamped Image
Embossing powders are used to raise a stamped image. They are used with
glycerine based ink and a heating tool. Handwriting can be embossed
using an erasable ink pen. Write on paper's surface, sprinkle on
embossing powder and apply the heating tool.
Stamping Tips
- Press the stamp firmly onto the ink and make sure that the stamp
is well inked.
- Apply firm and even pressure to the stamp while stamping on the
paper.
- Stamp on a flat, smooth surface.
- Large stamps and stamps with solid areas require more ink and
more pressure.
- Small stamps and fine line designs require less ink and pressure.
- When stamping on coated cardstock, pigment inks will not dry
because they cannot be absorbed into the paper.
- For stamping, avoid porous papers such as light weight typing
paper.
- Speciality papers such as deco paper, mulberry paper or sticker
paper can be used to add layers, textures and special effects.
- Embossing powder will stick to any moist stamped image.
